Cougars fall to Winterhawks 4-1, trail Western Conference Finals 2-1

PORTLAND — For the first in the 2024 Western Hockey League (WHL) playoffs, the Prince George Cougars are trailing a series.

The Cougars fell to the Portland Winterhawks 4-1 on the road in game three of the WHL Western Conference Finals Monday (April 29) and trail the best-of-seven series 2-1.

The Cats surrendered the first three goals in the first 9:40 of the first period, leading to an early pull of rookie goaltender Joshua Ravensbergen. The Winterhawks would add one more goal early in the third period on the power play before Borya Valis got the Cougars on the board with a wrist shot from the right circle on the power play.

The Cougars have a day off before the Western Conference Finals against the Winterhawks resumes with game four in Portland on Wednesday (May 1). Puck drop is at 7:00 p.m.
