WILLIAMS LAKE — Update: The highway has reopened to single-lane alternating traffic.

Earlier:Two people were injured – one critically – in a two-vehicle collision on Highway 97 at Lynes Creek Road, about 10 kilometres north of Wildwood.

North District RCMP say the crash occurred shortly after 9 a.m. on Tuesday April 30.

“The driver of the semi was injured, however the injuries do not appear to be life-threatening. The driver of the SUV was airlifted to hospital in critical condition,” says Cpl. Madonna Saunderson.

She says the crash shut down Highway 97 to all traffic as the semi caught fire and threatened surrounding trees.

“Fire Rescue has the fire under control. There are plans to re-open the highway to single alternating traffic.”

Saunderson says the investigation is in its infancy and causal factors have yet to be determined. Early conditions are that the SUV may have crossed the centre line.
