FORT ST. JAMES, B.C. — Smoke may continue to be visible near the District of Fort St. James.

The BC Wildfire Service says it carried out three prescribed burns near Fort St. James Thursday (May 2), treating nearly 8.5 hectares of land. In a post to social media, the wildfire service says the burns were done in partnership with Nak’azdli Whut’en and the Fort St. James Volunteer Fire Department.

The wildfire services says prescribed burning is used to help reduce the severity of future wildfires.

As of noon Friday, the wildfire service says the Prince George Fire Centre mostly has a moderate fire danger rating, meaning there is an increased risk of surface fires igniting.
