New changes made to limited-entry hunting

May 13, 2024 | 11:16 AM

BRITISH COLUMBIA— The Province says that they have updated limited-entry hunting regulations to address conservation concerns, advance First Nation reconciliation, and to provide a diverse set of hunting opportunities to B.C.

The changes affect moose, caribou, elk, bighorn sheep, thinhorn sheep, mountain goats, white-tailed deer and mule deer. While some general open-season sites have been changed to limited entry, other limited-entry sites have become open to all licensed hunters.

Near Prince George, general open-season hunting for caribou is now limited-entry in both the Skeena and Omineca regions. Additionally, North Skeena has changed to limited-entry hunting for bull moose or antler restricted moose in many accessible areas. General open-season for areas that are remote and without motorized access will continue.

For those in the Cariboo region, antlerless white-tailed deer is now general open-season.

Hunting regulations are reviewed and updated by the Province every two years to ensure the best available information on wildlife populations is taken into account. Before changes are made the government consults First Nations, the public, and stakeholders including the BC Trappers Association, the Guide Outfitters Association of British Columbia, and the BC Wildlife Federation.

Ensure that you have the most up to date information on the regulations before going to hunt.
