Duchess Park alumna added to Timberwolves Basketball roster

PRINCE GEORGE— Former Duchess Park standout, Brynn Dergousoff has committed to the UNBC Timberwolves for the 2024/25 women’s basketball season.

The six-foot forward has been in New Zealand playing club basketball with both Massey University and the Block City Comets. Last summer, Dergousoff helped the Comets capture the Manwatu club title in just their second year of existence. In 2022, she helped earn a bronze medal with Massey at the University and Tertiary Sport New Zealand (UTSNZ) 3X3 Basketball championships.

Before lacing up her shoes to play overseas, she had previously suited up for Louise Holmes’ Duchess Park Condors in high school and BC United at the club level for coaches Rich Chambers, Brian Lee and Aman Heran.

This is Dergousoff’s first season of U SPORTS eligibility, chosing UNBC to be close to home.

“I chose UNBC because after studying abroad for four years, I wanted to be close to my family,” shared Dergousoff who returned to Prince George earlier this month. “The Science program at UNBC has quality teaching and lots of research opportunities. I also love that the Timberwolves are involved in the community and the team itself is really supportive of each other.”

“We’re thrilled that Brynn has decided to come home to Prince George to begin her U SPORTS basketball career with the UNBC Timberwolves,” says T-wolves Head coach Sergey Shchepotkin. “She brings a great mix of athleticism and leadership which will complement our team nicely. We think she can make a strong impact at both ends of the floor.”

Dergousoff highlights her knowledge of the game, competitiveness and maturity as her greatest assets on the court. She adds that her love of the sports keeps her going “Basketball has always been a part of my life, so being on the court feels like home. I like to focus on teamwork and creating trust within your team. Which then creates a great sense of bonding.”

The UNBC Timberwolves family connections run deep for the Dergousoffs as Brynn’s father Dale has served as an assistant coach with the UNBC men’s basketball program since 2005.
