Taxpayer concerns rise as FIFA World Cup costs hundreds of millions with limited benefits beyond Vancouver
PRINCE GEORGE – Vancouver has been chosen as one of the cities to host the FIFA World Cup in 2026, and seven matches will be held in B.C. Place. What’s in it for those living outside the lower mainland? That’s the question some are asking.
CKPG News talked to those who’ve raised some concerns, along with a response from the government.
Carson Binda with the Canadian Taxpayers Federation monitors government spending closely and estimated that the amount needed to host the games would cost taxpayers hundreds of millions with little to no benefit to those outside Vancouver.
