Wildfire less than 50 km from Prince George is suspected to have been caused by lightning

PRINCE GEORGE— The B.C. Wildfire Service have located a wildfire near the Nechako River (G11214). The fire was discovered July 19 at 2:35 p.m. and is located roughly 35 kilometres from Prince George.

B.C. Wildfire service suspect that this fire was caused by dry lightning. However, they say full investigations can be complex and can take weeks or even months to complete.

As of July 19, 2:45 p.m. the fire is 0.009 Hectares in size.

Currently in B.C. there are 313 active wildfires. There have been 83 starts in the last 24 hours as parts of the province experience both a heat wave and a severe thunderstorm warning. No word yet on how many fires were sparked by Friday’s early evening lightning storm.
