Officer cleared in Oak Street shooting by the IIO
PRINCE GEORGE—At around 9 a.m., on April 26, 2023, RCMP responded to reports of a man allegedly attacking others with a weapon at a residence on the 2200 block of Oak Street.
Police located the man at a different house nearby and attempted to take him into custody. While trying to arrest the man, an altercation ensued were shots were fired by police.
In response to the shooting the Independent Investigation Office (IIO) of B.C. investigated the situation. After reviewing forensic analysis, witness testimony, and police reports, the Interim Chief Civilian Director determined “there are no reasonable grounds to believe any officer may have committed an offence.”
A court process related to a concurrent police investigation into this incident is ongoing, and the IIO is unable to release further details to the case. Once the court process has concluded the IIO say they will publish a public report.
