UNBC scientists receive $5 million grant for salmon research in Quesnel Lake
PRINCE GEORGE — UNBC says a team of researchers working out of the school’s Quesnel River Research Centre has secured one of the largest competitive grants in the University’s history to study the impacts of climate change and human activity on salmon habitat and ecosystems in the Quesnel watershed.
British Columbia Salmon Restoration and Innovation Fund (BCSRIF). The funding will support ongoing research into the impacts of drought, flooding and wildfires on salmon habitat, ecosystems and egg survival as well as infrastructure improvements at the QRRC in Likely, B.C.
The BCSRIF is co-funded by both the Government of Canada and the Government of British Columbia and is administered by Fisheries and Oceans Canada. The research team is collaborating with the Upper Fraser Fisheries Conservation Alliance.
