Aug 30, 2024 | 6:00 AM

PRINCE GEORGE — UNBC hosted its annual teaching and learning conference this week, bringing together educators, administrators, and scholars to explore innovative approaches to teaching and learning.

This year’s event was highlighted by an address from Tier 1 Canada Research Chair Dr. Dwayne Donald, a professor in the faculty of education at the University of Alberta. Dr. Donald is also the Canada Research Chair in reimagining teacher education with Indigenous wisdom traditions.

His keynote focused on integrating Indigenous wisdom traditions into curriculum and the method and practice of teaching, offering insights for creating more inclusive and holistic learning environments.

“My work has to do with understanding the legacies of colonialism in Canadian society. Not so much as a historical event or something to study in the past, but a kind of ongoing inheritance that we all have. How has colonial worldview affected each of us in our education? The message I had for people who were [at the keynote] was about the importance of studying that inheritance that all of us have.” – Dr. Dwayne Donald
