PRINCE GEORGE – A familiar face is joining the Board of Governors at UNBC.

Jim Martin spent nearly 30 years working for the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George, including 17 years as the Chief Administrative Officer before his retirement in December 2023.

“Martin brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Board of Governors that will help support the University as it continues to fulfil its mission to ignite, inspire and lead change,” says UNBC Board of Governors Chair Joel McKay.

Martin says his past experiences on other Boards will be an invaluable asset.

“I’ve sat on a number of different boards, a number of different initiatives in Prince George and Northern BC and being a civil servant, it’s about giving back to the community,” he says. “And the committee has given so much to me, felt like a natural transition and something to take up a little bit of that free time I have now. So I’m looking forward to it. I think with my background, both in governance and assisting boards in their policy development and sitting on numerous boards and then watching UNBC and what it’s done to contribute to northern B.C. and its sustainability I’m pretty excited to be able to be involved in the discussions with the board.”

Martin’s one-year term began on July 31. The Board has elected him as the Vice-Chair.
