Guns drawn in police incident in the Hart

PRINCE GEORGE – A heavy police presence was in the Hart on January 29, responding to reports of a stolen vehicle.

“Police officers ended up with our front line and emergency response team members, investigating reports of a stolen vehicle that ended up at a residence on the 2100 block of Shady Lane. This was all in response to an investigation that had begun earlier that morning and resulted with one man being taken into custody, and he was held until he could attend court,” explained Prince George RCMP Corporal Jennifer Cooper.

Cooper says the residence and the people who stay there are known to police, which resulted in the strong presence and guns being drawn by both police officers and the emergency response team. The Emergency Response Team was tasked with searching the house and vehicle as part of the ongoing investigation.

“Depends on the factors, the risk factors that we’ve taken into consideration on this case. The people of that residence are often known to police for violence and for having weapons as well. So that would factor into what we then use in our response,” Cooper said, when asked about the strong response.

37-year-old Prince George resident David Micheal O’Neill was arrested in connection with the substantive investigation. The following charges were approved in this matter:

  • Robbery
  • Forcible confinement

O’Neill was held in custody until he could attend court. Two other people were also located in the residence; one person was arrested on an outstanding arrest warrant and the third person was released without process.

This investigation remains ongoing.
