NANAIMO — The Prince George Spruce Kings needed overtime to beat the Nanaimo Clippers 2-1 in the BCHL Saturday (Feb. 15) night.

Owen Goodbrand scored the game winner 3:25 into the extra frame as the Kings picked up their fourth win in a row to inch closer to a playoff spot.

Mason Loewen also scored for Prince George at 13:46 of the second period, while Cole Lonsdale’s 22nd of the year was the only goal the Clippers managed to get at the Frank Crane Arena.

The Kings have been getting stellar goaltending from Charles-Edward Gravel, who finished with 20 saves on 21 shots. The veteran goaltender is 4-0 since he joined the team in early February. He boasts a 1.69 goals against average and a .939 save percentage in the BCHL.

The Spruce Kings are three points back of the Langley Rivermen for the final playoff spot in the BCHL’s Coastal Conference with 13 games to go. The Rivermen, who have played 42 games to the Kings 41, dropped an 8-3 decision to Alberni Valley on Saturday, and play Cowichan Valley in a Sunday matinee.

The Kings will be back home in Prince George for a weekend doubleheader against the conference leading Chilliwack Chiefs at Kopar Memorial Arena on Feb. 21 and 22.
