Northern Capitals to battle for first provincial title since 2016

PRINCE GEORGE— The Northern Capitals are headed to the provincial finals this weekend after an impressive showing in their semi final match up against the Fraser Valley Rush. Despite dropping the final three games against the Rush in the regular season, the Caps swept them this past weekend on their home ice in Langley.

“It speaks to the growth of this team, the resiliency, and how far we’ve come since September. I don’t know if we would have been able to make a push like that earlier in the year, but now we’re more than capable of it. It’s exactly where we want to be heading into the finals,” said Capitals Head Coach, Hayden-James Berra.

As they head into the finals, they’ll certainly be the underdogs against the Greater Vancouver Comets, who’ve lost just two games all season long, but regardless of the outcome, it’s already been a very successful campaign.

“I’m so proud of every girl on the team. I feel like every person on the team has faced a little bit of adversity this year with the coaching changes and the practice times. I think that if anybody deserves it, it’s us, because I think everybody’s earned it,” said Capitals Associate Captain, Nicole Bateman.

If the Northern Capitals can complete their incredible run with a couple more wins this weekend, they’ll bring the program it’s first title since 2016.

“To get this over the finish line and ultimately win this BC Championship would be incredible, not only for the girls on the team today, but also for the future that we’re trying to build for this program,” said Berra

Puck drop for game one of the finals is at 5 p.m. on Friday (Mar. 21), in Coquitlam.
