PRINCE GEORGE — Update: The Liberal Party has challenged Chris Beach’s assertion that he was acclaimed or green-lit as the party’s candidate in Cariboo-Prince George.

A Liberal Party spokesperson sent us the following statement:

“Chris Beach was a nomination candidate for the Liberal Party of Canada in the riding of Cariboo—Prince George. He was never green-lit nor acclaimed officially as the Liberal Party candidate. The Liberal candidate for this riding will be announced very shortly. ”

Earlier: Chris Beach has been disqualified as the Liberal candidate in Cariboo -Prince George.

Beach says he was notified via a short email. This after he launched his campaign last week in Prince George.

In a social media post, Beach says he was “rejected without any explanation, after having been told repeatedly I was the one and only candidate for the Liberal Party in Cariboo-Prince George.

“The only plausible explanation that I can come up with at this point is that I was too critical of former Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, and current Premier, David Eby, in my past history as an active BC Liberal Party member & TV & radio political analyst.”

He adds that “like former BC Premier Christy Clark, I have been passed on by the Liberal Party for former Green Party candidates and former NDP MLAs. This is the Liberal Party’s choice to make. I just wish they had been transparent, honest, and professional from day one, rather than the complete opposite.”

No word yet on who the party’s candidate will be. We have reached out to the Liberal Party but have yet to hear back.

Declared candidates in the riding are Conservative incumbent Todd Doherty, the NDP’s Angie Bonazzo, Jodie Capling with the Green Party, and Jake Wiens with the Christian Heritage Party.

Election day is scheduled for April 28.
