PRINCE GEORGE — Tourism Prince George is looking for Northern BC artists who are interested in designing and creating a new mural.

It is asking asking interested artists to submit “expressions of interest” to create the new mural, which will be located at the Container Market in the Canada Games Plaza.

“The new mural will be created for one of the five C-Cans that comprise the Container Market,” Tourism Prince George said. “This new initiative, a community-focused market located outside Tourism PG’s Visitor Centre in the Plaza, is designed to foster cultural connections for visitors and residents alike.”

“The market aims to be a welcoming gateway to the heart and spirit of Prince George.

Tourism PG is encouraging a variety of artists like painters, photographers and graphic designers to apply. It is also asking people working with wood, steel and the soft-arts like textiles, beading or wool to consider applying as their work could be photographed and installed as a vinyl wrap.

People have until midnight on April 21 to submit their expressions of interest, after which point at least three and up to 10 artists will be shortlisted and asked to submit a full proposal by May 15.

The winner artist will then be given a project budget of up to $17,000 – with up to $10,000 for artists’ fees. Tourism PG will also pay up to $7,000 for materials, installation. They may also cover additional travel and contingency expenses.

The successful artist’s work will be on the “welcoming/centre piece” container located at the entrance to the plaza.

“This multi-purpose container and the market will be activated weekly during our market days (Thursday to Saturday) but also for special events outside of those days,” Tourism PG said. “The ‘community container’ has the flexibility to become a stage for artists, a seating area for foodie events, or as a flex space for organizing groups.”
