PRINCE GEORGE— Prince George gymnast Alencia Graham is preparing to represent Team BC at the Western Canadian Championship next weekend (Apr. 24-26) in Saskatoon.

To qualify for the provincial team, Graham had to put up an impressive performance at the Twisters Invitational last month in Abbotsford.

“You have to make the top six out of all 15 plus age categories. I think I had about 40 gymnasts that I was competing against. I came first all around in my age category and then third all around out of everyone,” said Graham.

Qualifying for Team BC has been one of Graham’s career goals, and her coach is really proud to see what she’s been able to accomplish.

“So proud of her. She’s worked towards this for a long time, and I think this was a big goal for her wanting to finish off the year on this. We went into Twisters Invitational just being like, go out there and do your best, try to take the pressure off of her and it definitely paid off to see her do really well there,” said Graham’s coach, Becky Barwise.

As Graham is now doing full time nursing, she has decided that this is her final year competing and is happy to wrap up her career on such a high note.

“It’s definitely a nice way to end it. Good way to hit it off with a bang,” said Graham.

Not only is she wrapping up her time competing in gymnastics with some great accomplishments but she also means so much to the younger gymnasts at the Prince George Gymnastics Club.

“She’s a great role model to our younger kids. Kids look up to her and she’ll be greatly missed as a role model for the kids,” said Barwise.
