District of Mackenzie receives Community Leadership Award

MACKENZIE — At the most recent annual meeting of the North Central Local Government Association (NCLGA), the District of Mackenzie received a Community Leadership Award.

The Community Leadership Award was for Environmental Stewardship for the arena slab and energy upgrades project.

Key project improvements for the arena project include:

• Full replacement of the arena ice slab and underfloor heating system
• Installation of new dasher boards and protective glass
• Upgrades to HVAC systems, hot water heaters, and full integration with a new DDC control system
• Implementation of solar panels and a heat recovery system – solar panel dashboard
• Estimated annual energy savings: 27%
• Estimated annual GHG reduction: 158 tonnes
