PG native Jared Young hits solo home run as New York Mets tie MLB record Saturday

PHILADELPHIA – Prince George native Jared Young was part of a record tying effort in Major League Baseball Saturday (June 21).

The 29-year-old utility player – who went to Prince George Secondary School – hit a solo home run as the New York Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies 11-4 to snap a season-high seven-game losing streak.

Young’s home run – his third of the season – off Phillies reliever Michael Mercado, made it an 8-4 ball game in the top of the eighth inning. His 441 foot shot was one of seven solo home runs hit by the Mets, which tied a Major League record.

According to MLB.com’s Sarah Langs, the Mets’ are one of just three teams to hit only solo home runs in a game.

Brandon Nimmo and Juan Soto went deep twice at Citizens Bank Park, while Francisco Lindor and Francisco Alvarez also hit solo shots.

The Mets and Phillies top the National League East standings with identical 46-31 records. Each team has one once in this current three game series, with the rubber match scheduled to get underway at 4:10 p.m. Sunday.
