Riding for Peace

PRINCE GEORGE – With international tensions rising an American doctor is cycling from British Columbia to Alaska all in the name of peace. Dr. Craig Davis is an avid cyclist who has cycled al over the world including Vietnam, Cambodia and Scandanavia. It was during a trip through Louisiana four years ago while COVID Restrictions were still in affect when Davis realized he wanted to make a change.

“The initial idea of the nonprofit started about four years ago when I was riding my bicycle from Florida to Louisiana and back. It was just after the presidential elections in the United States and communities were more divided than I ever remember them being. I stopped along the way and talked to people. Everyone I talked to felt like a lot of damage that was done and the positions were getting wider” said Davis.

Years of humanitarian work across the globe in turbulent locations such as Honduras, Iraq, Somalia and Afghanistan only fueled Davis’ desire to do more. The Doctor started PeaceBridge Solutions with a clear dedication to fostering peace, social cohesion and sustainable developments. The first project selected was Ride for Peace which entailed a roughly 1500 kilometer bike ride from Prince George to Juneau Alaska.

“I just decided that I’m going to dedicate the rest of my career to being part of the solution and the first step would be raising awareness and spreading a little bit of goodwill. I mean this ride is not going to change the world but I think it’s one baby step in the right direction to remind us that we can do better, and that we are at our best when we’re helping each other” said Davis.

Dr.Davis is left Prince George today heading North and the journey will certainly not be easy but his message is what will keep him going.

“I think the message I would like to get out is that we can do better. Those of us who are just residents and citizens, we can lend a hand, we can be more tolerant and we can be part of the solution” added Davis.
