City back in court over Moccasin Flats

PRINCE GEORGE – The City is back in court this week, hoping to achieve the authority to dismantle a homeless camp at the bottom of Lower Patricia Boulevard.

A 2021 court ruling, initially allowing the encampment to remain open until sufficient housing and daytime facilities were available, has been central to the dispute. The city’s subsequent efforts to dismantle the encampment, particularly in November 2021, were deemed a breach of the initial ruling.

Mayor Simon Yu says he hopes the City has met the standard.

“It is my hope that the all the evidence presented from both sides, the judge will make a decision that it will serve as a decision that from now on, the whole country, everybody can reference all we as a people. I’m talking about civic, provincial, and federal government on this very difficult file. We know we have our shortcomings, all of us, especially in terms of how to provide wraparound services at a very much individual basis,” says Mayor Yu.
