PRINCE GEORGE — The Cops for Cancer Tour de North team will gather for a group ride on Sunday, July 20 at 8 a.m. to honour Shane Kelly, who was killed in a hit-and-run collision earlier this month.

“This ride is an important part of the healing process for Shane’s teammates as we carry forward with something he was truly passionate about: raising funds for children with cancer and supporting the families who face it,” says Laura Nelson, Manager, Cops for Cancer.

Organizers note that this ride is an opportunity for the community, which has already shown incredible support for Shane, his family, and Cops for Cancer, to join in that healing.

“Everyone is welcome to join us at 7:45 a.m. on Sunday, July 20 at the Aquatic Centre overflow parking lot off 18th Avenue to send well wishes as we begin the ride. For the safety of all road users and in keeping with the training plan, the ride will be reserved for 2025 Cops for Cancer team members only,” states Corporal Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer, Prince George RCMP.

On Sunday, July 20, the peloton will be travelling:

  • From the 1700-block of George Paul Lane to the 3000-block of Massey Drive via Foothills Boulevard and Highway 97 between 8:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.
  • South on Highway 97 to Hixon between 8:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.
  • North on Highway 97 returning to Prince George between 12:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.

The ride will be escorted by RCMP, BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS), and BC Sheriffs.

Motorists should expect short delays along this route, as escorts manage traffic to allow for safe passing.
