PRINCE GEORGE – Bouchie Lake is a small community located just a quick 15-minute drive from downtown Quesnel. This year, a business owner has launched an initiative to bring the community together, particularly those involved in hobby farming, through a bi-weekly event called the Crop Swap.

“ Crop swap is basically an opportunity for people to come together…at the community level to trade food items that they’ve grown… It could be a zucchini for a carrot.”

The Bouchie Lake Country Store, located at the intersection of Nazko and Blackwater Roads, serves as the perfect gathering spot for locals participating in the Crop Swap.

“ During the pandemic, there was a huge number of new people that moved into the area, particularly from the Fraser Valley. And we actually have a lot more people gardening in the area than I think I’ve ever seen before. “

According to store owner Heloise Dixon-Warren, the idea for the Crop Swap originated when residents began bringing their extra produce to the store to donate.

The Crop Swap takes place every other Sunday, with the next event scheduled for August 17th.
