PRINCE GEORGE — Wildfire evacuees from the Cariboo are beginning to arrive in Prince George.

The City has activated its Emergency Social Services Centre and say evacuees from the Ulkatcho First Nation area surrounding Anahim Lake are in town.

The ESS Reception Centre is located at the Prince George Exhibition Grounds with reception trailers located at the parking lot between the horse paddocks and ice oval (2187 Ospika Blvd).

It will remain activated daily while it is needed to support evacuees. Any changes in the hours will be communicated through the City’s website and social media channels. For information after-hours, evacuees can call 236-607-9325.

An ESS provides short-term basic support to people impacted by disasters. The program is financed by the provincial government and administered by Indigenous communities and local governments. Resources provided can include information, hotel vouchers, and meal vouchers for those who have been evacuated. Volunteers, supplies, and donations are not being requested at this time.
