PRINCE GEORGE – The Festival of Trees is an annual tradition in Prince George. For 32 years the festival has been fundraising to support healthcare in the north but this year it says goodbye to it’s longtime home at the Civic centre and moves in across town to the bigger and better CN Centre. Though the Civic centre has been home to many memories CEO of Spirit of the North Aimee Cassie says the time is right for a upgrade.

“Over 32 years we have seen huge expansion. We did some changes with the schedule a couple of years ago when we went to a five day event and we saw a lot of uptick with that change. I think we had maximized all the space that we possibly could at the Civic Center and with the move we’re able to grow the areas that are people’s favorite. We can grow the kids area, vendors in the concourse and we’ve got way more space for our big tree. So I think it is a natural evolution of festival trees.” said Cassie.

The Festival will have a Whoville theme this year and promises to offer never before seen perks such as added vendors, expanded public hours, more parking and increased accessibility. CN Centre manager Glen Mikkelsen says that the centre is ready and capable of making the 32nd Festival of Trees the largest one yet.

“It’s fantastic to be part of the Festival of Trees with Spirit of the North and to host that within our facility. Our staff are already thrilled about our right to be part of is the biggest Christmas event we’ve ever hosted here in Prince George, let alone the CN Center. To have have that excitement, energy and enthusiasm that the festival brings to our venue, we are just thrilled about it.” said Mikkelsen.

The festival record for fundraising in one year is $680,000 and that is certainly a goal that could be broken in the larger venue this year.
