Chetwynd RCMP looking for first tip into missing man’s case one year after his disappearance

CHETWYND, B.C. — RCMP are renewing their plea to the public for help in finding a man and his dog one year after they went missing.

In a news release issued Wednesday (Oct. 15), Chetwynd RCMP say police have not received any information regarding what happened to James Barnes, or his whereabouts.

The 28-year-old was reported missing to Fort St. John RCMP on Oct. 18, 2024, after he failed to return home from a hunting trip earlier that day.

Chetwynd RCMP were notified as police say there was reason to believe Barnes was near the district.

Barnes left his home in his grey Chevrolet pickup truck with his golden retriever Murphy. Police say the truck was found, but not Barnes and his dog.

Barnes is described as standing 5’11” and weighing 201 lbs. He has brown hair, brown eyes and a big moustache.

Anyone who may have seen Barnes or his dog and truck on Oct. 18 in the Groundbirch area on Road 269 between Highway 97S and Goundbirch Forest Service Road is asked to contact Chetwynd RCMP at 250-788-9221.
