A new specialized policing unit, the North District Uniform Gang Enforcement Team, is being established in northern B.C. to combat organized crime activity that is bringing violence and toxic drugs into local communities. Plus Artemis Gold has given the green light for an expanded Phase 2 development at its Blackwater Mine, with a price tag of nearly $1.5 billion, the expansion will boost the processing capacity from 8 million to 21 million tonnes per year by the end of 2028. And Mayor Simon Yu pivoted on a motion that would see nearly $18,000 in council contingency funds go to one senior centre, and proposed that those funds be equally divided between all five senior centres, but the motion fell flat, getting voted down.
