PRINCE GEORGE – School District 57 is moving forward with plans to build a new child care centre at 4543 West Austin Road in Prince George. This is the first major update on the project since it was announced in 2023.

The new centre will have 62 spaces and is funded by both federal and provincial governments through the ChildCareBC New Spaces Fund. The old Austin Road Elementary school on the site was torn down in the summer of 2024. After a lengthy design and budgeting process, the project was put out to bid and awarded in April 2026.

Construction is set to start in June and should be finished by summer 2027. When it opens, the centre will have 12 spots for children under 36 months, 25 spots for kids aged 30 months to school age, and 25 spots for school-aged children.
