Officials say preparation and early action save lives in Northern B.C.
PRINCE GEORGE – As the holiday season draws more people into the outdoors, Prince George Search and Rescue is reminding adventurers to prepare carefully and call for help early if they get into trouble.
Dave Merritt of Prince George Search and Rescue says winter conditions can sometimes slow response times, noting that “it can take time for response teams to reach you, especially with weather and reduced daylight.” He adds that early calls improve outcomes, saying, “Calling for help early allows us to respond more effectively and safely.”
Search and Rescue crews have already responded to five calls this winter, with shorter daylight hours and nighttime ground rescues often requiring snowmobiles.
