PRINCE GEORGE — The Prince George Kodiaks Football Club will take the field this summer, despite recent off-field turmoil that’s plagued the franchise over the past several months.

In a statement released Saturday (April 11) afternoon, the team says it is “proud to confirm” that it will compete in the 2026 British Columbia Football Conference (BCFC) season, following formal confirmation from the league.

“The new board, our volunteers, and supporters have put in an incredible amount of work to get us to this point,” Nicolas Fricke, the president of the Prince George Kodiaks, said in the statement. “The BCFC’s approval confirms that the Kodiaks are on the right track and ready to move forward. We’re excited to build something sustainable for our athletes and our community.”

The Kodiaks underwent an “organizational restructuring” in March after a number of previous board members stepped aside. The team’s annual general meeting in March also painted a bleak financial picture, but there was also optimism that a solution would be found to keep the team on the field.

“The decision marks a major milestone for the Kodiaks as the organization continues its work to financially stabilize itself, as well as maintain high-level junior football in Prince George and the northern region,” the team’s statement added.

The Kodiaks add with the league’s confirmation in place, the board is now turning its attention to addressing the head coaching situation – following Jamie Boreham’s dismissal in February.

Spring camp for returning players, new recruits, and prospective athletes is scheduled to take place between May 8 and 10, and more details about registration will be shared in the coming weeks.
