Kodiaks AGM paints bleak financial picture

PRINCE GEORGE — The Prince George Kodiaks held an annual general meeting last night (Wed), and the meeting painted a bleak picture for the future of the franchise.

During the meeting, it was revealed that the organization currently holds an outstanding loan of $426,000 with a 7 per cent interest rate, owed to former board president Craig Briere.

Sponsorship revenue declined by an estimated $60 to $75,000 year-over-year, with multiple sponsors not renewing their sponsorships with the team.

The meeting added former head coach Jamie Boreham was fired due to financial constraints, and no replacement has been announced at this time.

The team says it is in urgent need of sponsorship commitments within the next 48 hours, as the team may be placed into “non playing status” by the league if it can’t pay those financial obligations.

Despite the challenges, President Nick Fricke is hopeful Kodiaks football is here to stay.
