PRINCE GEORGE – The City of Prince George is excited to announce City Fest is returning for a second straight year. Taking place on May 13 from 3:00-6:30 p.m. at Canada Games Plaza, the City says City Fest is a fun and casual way to learn more about the City’s operations, while also providing free family-friendly entertainment.

“City Fest is a free, family-friendly event to celebrate Local Government Week. It falls on Asset Management Awareness Day, and it’s really just to invite people to come out and learn a little bit more about civic facilities and how the City works in a really light hearted and interactive, fun way. There will be food trucks and face painting and live entertainment and an opportunity for people to come and learn more, ask questions, meet staff,” said the City’s Communications Manager Claire Thwaites.

Thwaites said last year around 500 people attended, and she expects this year will be even bigger and better. Beyond adding additional activities, Thwaites adds Canada Games Plaza wrapped up its construction work from 2025, so it can offer even more than it did before. As for what you can learn, she says City Fest gives people a chance to engage with topics they may not think about it when it comes to City operations.

“At City Fest, they can learn about long range planning, they can learn about wastewater treatment plants, they can learn about different departments. They can speak with HR about job opportunities at the City, it’s just a lot more overarching, all different areas and departments covered,” Thwaites said.
