Pharmacists Help Treat Minor Ailments

Apr 21, 2026 | 6:02 AM

If you have a common health concern, you might not need to wait for a doctor’s appointment. Pharmacists can now assess and treat several minor ailments, allowing patients to receive care more quickly.

Pharmacist Brianna Pallot says she often helps people with uncomplicated bladder infections and cold sores.

To get assessed, patients need to visit the pharmacy in person. Pallot explains that pharmacists ask questions to understand symptoms and look for any warning signs.

Pharmacists also review your medications and medical history to make sure the treatment is safe for you.

If symptoms point to something more serious, pharmacists will refer patients to a doctor or clinic. For example, if bladder infections keep coming back, it could mean there is a kidney infection or another issue.

Pallot says this service helps many people get treatment quickly and ensures that anyone who needs more advanced care is sent to the right place.
