VALEMOUNT — Valemount Mayor Owen Torgerson has retained legal counsel after he was arrested on allegations of sexual assault last week.
Torgerson confirmed to CKPG that those are allegations that anyone should take seriously. He notes sections 109.2 and 109.3 of the Community Charter are quite clear that a local government elected official is required to take a mandatory leave of absence following charges of an offence under the Criminal Code.
As that has not occurred, he says he’ll continue to serve as mayor of Valemount and as a director at the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George in the same manner he has over the past eight years: with commitment, integrity, and accountability,.
