Fort George Baptist Church damaged by fire

PRINCE GEORGE —Update (4:15 p.m. May 2): The City of Prince George has confirmed some details regarding Friday night’s fire at Fort George Baptist Church.

The City says crews arrived on scene at approximately 6:30 p.m. to find heavy smoke and flame on one side of the structure. 

Crews initiated an aggressive attack and knocked down the fire on the exterior of the building before entering the structure to extinguish flames inside. 

Damage was confined to the building of origin. Damage is estimated at $150,000. There were no injuries to either firefighters or the public. The cause is currently under investigation.

Earlier (May 1 7:45 p.m.): Prince George Fire Rescue responded to a structure fire early this evening (May 1) at Fort George Baptist Church on the 1600-block of Johnson Street.

Crews arrived on scene after 6 p.m. to find flames coming from the side of the church.

By 7:30 p.m. Friday night, Prince George Fire Rescue appeared to have the fire under control.

By 7:30 p.m., fire crews appeared to have the fire under control with RCMP blocking the entrance to Johnson Street from 15th Avenue.

No word yet on the cause or whether or not anyone was injured.
