PRINCE GEORGE – A new travelling exhibit is on display at The Exploration Place: Dinosaurs of BC.

“It’s a fantastic exhibit. Of course, the highlight of it is Buster the Dinosaur, a brand new species of dinosaur only known here in B.C. so far, and the only one of its kind so far. So he’s quite fantastic, we have a life size model of him, so you can see it, and then a little miniature one for for kids to take to pet,” said The Exploration Place’s Assistant Curator Chad Hellenius.

“It was a new discovery made through paleontologists down at the Royal BC Museum, but it was based on an older set of bones that were fossilized bones obviously, that were discovered in the 70s by a geologist looking for absolutely different things. Paleontology happens that way by accident, a lot of the time,” Hellenius continued.

This travelling exhibit is produced by the Royal BC Museum, and will stay in Prince George until September 13. Besides Buster the Dinosaur, who is officially known as a ferrisaurus sustutensis, or an “Iron Lizard,” there are also real fossils for viewing, as well as some replicas.

“We have all sorts of fun fossils. There’s a tyrannosaur tooth in here, there’s various plant fossils, various footprints from different kinds of dinosaurs all found throughout B.C. That’s the focus of it, is dinosaurs and all of the fossils associated with dinosaurs that tell us about the environment that they live in,” Hellenius said.

Hellenius encourages everyone to come down to The Exploration Place to visit the travelling exhibit, noting there is a lot of information specific to our province that both children and adults will enjoy learning.
