Parts of Kamloops, B.C., still without water after repair on broken main unsuccessful

KAMLOOPS — Parts of Kamloops in the British Columbia Interior have been without water for more than a day after a main break disrupted service.

Officials say residents east of Rose Hill and nearby areas continue to be without water after efforts to fix the broken water main were unsuccessful.

A water use restriction is in place for nearby properties that still had water service to preserve essential supply, and residents in breach face fines.

Residents have also been warned not to consume tap water until further notice.

In the meantime, the city is supplying potable water via water trucks 24-hours-a-day to residents of Valleyview Arena and Dallas Park, and BC Wildlife Park until Friday.

The city says in an update that crews will attempt another, “more robust” repair to the broken main today where they will try to re-pressurize the system, which may lead to water flowing from hydrants.

“While this may feel counterintuitive when residents have been asked to cease water use, it is a critical part of restoring water service,” the update says. “Impacted residents must continue to avoid using water until further notice.”
