PRINCE GEORGE β€” A 31-year-old man is facing multiple charges following an incident in a Prince George railyard that prompted a police response Sunday morning.

According to Prince George RCMP, officers were called to the area near Terminal Boulevard and Industrial Way shortly before 10 a.m. on Sunday, May 17 after witnesses reported an unauthorized man in the railyard allegedly carrying a firearm.

Police said the suspect was seen acting suspiciously and attempting to gain access to buildings, vehicles and trains in the area.

When officers arrived, the suspect allegedly attempted to flee in a vehicle. RCMP said officers used manoeuvres to stop the vehicle, and during the confrontation, a police officer discharged their service pistol at the suspect. The suspect was then taken into custody following what police described as a brief struggle.

Investigators later located a firearm and ammunition during a search of the suspect and vehicle.

β€œThe rapid response by police officers was key to this event concluding as it did: with one person in custody and no injuries to the public,” said Corporal Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for Prince George RCMP.

The suspect, identified by police as 31-year-old Daniel Patrick Finke, remains in custody pending his next court appearance.

RCMP confirmed the following charges have been approved:

  • Pointing a firearm
  • Flight while pursued by a police officer
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle

The matter is now before the courts.
