Free bike valet returns to Prince George

PRINCE GEORGE – Downtown Prince George is bringing back its free event bike valet for summer 2026. This year, there are more events and an even warmer welcome for everyone.

The program started as a pilot last year and provides a safe, staffed place for people to leave their bikes while they enjoy the event. It’s free and simple. Just fill out a one-page form, get a tag for your bike, and you’re ready to go.

”This program is about continuing to build a more bike-friendly and accessible community,” said Chrisie Berry, executive director of Downtown Prince George. “The response to last year’s pilot program was incredibly positive, and we’re excited to expand the service in 2026. The valet is not just for bikes. Strollers, wagons, scooters, and anything else with wheels that you do not want to push through a crowd are welcome too. Look for the tall red Downtown Prince George tent at each event.

The first stop is Go by Bike Week on June 5 and 6 at the Crossroads Lot on George Street. After that, the valet will be at Canada Day at Lheidli T’enneh Park, Downtown Summerfest at Veteran’s Plaza, a FIFA Watch Party at Canada Games Plaza, the PG Public Library’s Touch A Truck event, the Farmer’s Market Corn Festival, and will finish at Truth and Reconciliation Day on September 30.

Berry says the program makes it easier for people to choose active transportation, especially for evening events. “You could ride your bike down after work, go for dinner, do a little bit of shopping, and your bike will be totally secure,” she said.

Funding comes from the BC Cycling Coalition in partnership with the B.C. Ministry of Transportation and Transit. Dates and locations are posted on Downtown Prince George’s social media and website.
