Burn bans

Burn bans for parts of Prince George Fire Centre rescinded

May 27, 2026 | 9:24 AM

PRINCE GEORGE — Effective at noon tomorrow (May 28), Category 2 and Category 3 open burning and other associated activities will be permitted in the Prince George Forest Service District.

This will affect people living in the Prince George and Robson Valley fire zones. This after Category 2 and Category 3 fires were banned just three weeks ago.

The Prince George Fire Centre says the prohibitions were removed “due to a variety of factors including time of year, current and forecasted wildfire activity, fire weather indices, current and forecasted weather and available firefighting resources.”

At the beginning of this month, the Prince George Fire Centre also received its last large intake of crews who are at the tail end of training and set for fire response.

A Category 2 and Category 3 open fire prohibition remains in effect in the Stuart Nechako Forest District.

This prohibition will remain in effect until 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Thursday, October 15, 2026, or until the order is rescinded.

This prohibition does not ban Category 1 (campfires) that are half-metre high by half-metre wide or smaller, or the use of cooking stoves that use gas, propane or briquettes.

Before lighting a fire of any size, check the BC Wildfire Service open fire prohibitions and contact your local government for any bylaw restrictions in your area.
