Highway improvements coming to northern B.C.

PRINCE GEORGE — The provincial government is investing approximately $45 million in northern highway and side-road resurfacing.

Major projects include Highway 97 (40 kilometres) and Highway 27 (75 kilometres) resurfacing. Victoria says the work will continue through this spring and summer. In total, the work will cover more than 190 kilometres in infrastructure.

Highway resurfacing underway

On Highway 97 between Azouzetta and Mount Solitude (two hours north of Prince George), 40 km of asphalt resurfacing will take place between Honeymoon Creek Bridge and Big Boulder Creek Bridge. The $10.5-million project was awarded to Peter Bros. Construction and is expected to be complete by fall 2026.

On Highway 27 and Sowchea side roads, 75 km will be seal coated from the junction of Highway 16 to the Stuart River Bridge, as well as various side roads in the Sowchea area. LaPrairie Works Inc. was awarded a $6-million contract to complete this work. The project is expected to be finished by fall 2026.
