PRINCE GEORGE – The wheels are in motion to convert a piece of property on 15th Avenue – where Studio 2880 and a number of guilds call home – into a new venture.

“There has been a lot of uncertainty around what will happen should we redevelop that site, especially to the tenants that are currently on the site,” explains Margaret Jones-Bricker, President of the Arts Council.

The City owns the land on which Studio 2880 exists and is looking for expressions of interest to develop housing alongside the studio tenants. And new digs has been a dream for some time.

“It’s been in development for a long time,” says Shelby Richardson, Executive Director for the Arts Council. “But this is the furthest we’ve come in terms of the conversation. The rezoning has been voted on. So we, we do know that it has been raised on the property.”

And they made a very firm recommendation to Council – one that was accepted. That Council “… direct staff to work collaboratively with the Community Arts Council of Prince George & District to develop a Memorandum of Understanding related to the redevelopment of the Studio 2880 site.”

“The fact that we are at where we are now is very promising that we could see something in the next five years actually be developed,” says Richardson.
