Crépeau, Laryea named to MLS all-star roster following Canada’s FIFA World Cup run

Hailing from Candiac, Que., Crépreau came up through the Montreal Impact’s academy and began his MLS career with the team now known as CF Montreal. He joined the Vancouver Whitecaps in 2019 and logged time with Los Angeles FC and Portland Timbers before signing with Orlando ahead of the 2026 campaign.

Crépreau won an MLS Cup with LAFC in 2022, but broke his leg in the final, an injury that kept him off Canada’s World Cup roster in Qatar.

Toronto FC’s Laryea was one of two all-stars selected by MLS commissioner Don Garber.

The 31-year-old defender played in his second World Cup this summer, starting in each of Canada’s games.

Laryea, who’s from Toronto, has had a solid season for TFC, too, tallying two goals and two assists across nine regular-season appearances.

The Canadian duo are among 13 MLS all stars who were named to the World Cup rosters of eight different nations.

The Vancouver Whitecaps will also be represented at the game by attacking midfielder Thomas Muller — another of Smith’s selections — and defensive midfielder Sebastian Berhalter, who was voted in by a combination of fans, players and media.

Berhalter, 25, has been a standout for the ‘Caps this season, and leads the club in goal contributions with six goals and seven assists over 14 regular-season games.

He played in five World Cup games for the United States this summer, contributing one goal and one assist before the country was ousted in a 4-1 loss to Belgium on Monday.

Muller came to Vancouver last August following a storied career at Bayern Munich, and has proved to be a creative playmaking presence for the Whitecaps. The 36-year-old German soccer legend has four goals and four assists over 12 MLS games in 2026.

Both Berhalter and Muller were key pieces for the ‘Caps as they battled their way to their first MLS Cup final appearance in December. The team ultimately fell 3-1 to Inter Miami.

The league’s all-star roster also includes Miami’s Lionel Messi and Son Heung-min of Los Angeles FC. The MLS standouts will face a team of LIGA MX all-stars in Charlotte, N.C., on July 29.
