Two arrested after shots were fired near Tachie
FORT ST. JAMES — Two people were arrested following a firearms incident near Tachie on Thursday that prompted a significant police response, including the deployment of the North District Emergency Response Team.
Fort St. James RCMP say they received a report of gunshots being fired near the community on July 9, 2026. Frontline officers responded to the area and reported hearing gunfire upon their arrival. Police said one individual was safely taken into custody outside a residence as officers approached the scene. However, other occupants inside the home initially refused to comply with police directions to exit the residence.
The RCMP’s North District Emergency Response Team was called in to assist with the situation. Following the deployment of specialized resources, a second occupant was taken into custody without further incident. No injuries were reported.
“This was a dynamic situation involving reports of gunfire and individuals who were initially unwilling to comply with police directions,” said Cpl. Brett Urano of the BC RCMP. “Thanks to the coordinated efforts of responding officers and the North District Emergency Response Team, the situation was resolved safely.”
