CityWest outage disrupts services across Northern B.C.
PRINCE GEORGE —Update: CityWest says it has identified the cause of the service outage that disrupted internet, telephone and TV services for customers from Prince George west to the Central Coast.
The company reports the outage was caused by a fibre cut linked to an attempted copper theft on a third-party carrier’s network in Alberta that carries CityWest’s long-distance traffic. The outage affected customers in and west of Prince George, including communities on the Central Coast.
CityWest says its ability to reroute traffic has also been hampered by wildfire activity impacting a secondary connection between Prince George and Vancouver.
The carrier has classified the repair as a priority, with technicians expected on site to begin work. CityWest currently expects service to be restored within the next couple of hours.
