Prince George prepares for data centres
PRINCE GEORGE – Prince George city council could soon begin laying the groundwork for potential data-centre developments before any major proposals officially arrive.
Councillors Brian Skakun and Garth Frizzell have filed a notice of motion that would direct city staff to prepare a high-level overview of regulatory tools and policy models used in other jurisdictions. The review would examine how communities across North America have addressed issues such as power consumption, environmental impacts, taxation, land use and community benefits associated with large-scale data centres.
The motion is expected to come before council on August 31.
