‘I’m glad I got Parkinson’s’: Prince George man finds family and friends in diagnosis
PRINCE GEORGE – On Thursday, the scent of barbecue filled the Canadian Tire parking lot in Prince George as volunteers grilled burgers to support a local cause.
The second annual Parkinson’s fundraising BBQ took place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and featured food, gift cards, and a dunk tank. All proceeds go to the local Parkinson’s Support Group. The event also marks the start of this year’s Prince George Parkinson’s SuperWalk, which will be held on September 12 at Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park.
For Selen Alpay, the event had special meaning. He was diagnosed with Parkinson’s two years ago. He says the disease brought him something unexpected: a sense of community.
