Nominations for Regional District elected positions open next week

To qualify, a candidate must be a Canadian citizen, at least 18 years old on voting day, a resident of B.C. for at least six months before filing nomination papers, and not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other law. Nomination packages are available online at www.rdffg.ca/Election and in print at the regional district office at 155 George Street in Prince George. Depending on the electoral area, forms can also be picked up at the District of Mackenzie office, the Bear Lake Local Community Commission office, the Village of McBride, or the Village of Valemount. Completed nominations can be delivered by hand, mail or courier to the George Street office, faxed to 250-563-7520, or emailed to election@rdffg.bc.ca.

Campaign spending is capped at $6,161.89 per candidate in each electoral area, with a third-party advertising limit of $924.28.

Once nominations close, the regional district will confirm which areas are going to a vote and release details for voters, including where to cast a ballot and how to vote by mail.

If you are considering running for local office in the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George, you have a short period to submit your paperwork. Nominations start at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, September 1, and end at 4 p.m. on Friday, September 11. We will not accept documents sent before or after these dates.

The general local election will take place on Saturday, October 17, 2026. Seven director positions are available: Area A (Salmon River–Lakes), Area C (Chilako River–Nechako), Area D (Tabor Lake–Stone Creek), Area E (Woodpecker–Hixon), Area F (Willow River–Upper Fraser), Area G (Crooked River–Parsnip), and Area H (Robson Valley–Canoe). Each area will elect one person. The regional district also oversees the Bear Lake Local Community Commission election.

Chief election officer Maureen Connolly says these roles are important for daily life in the region. Directors help with community services, infrastructure, and planning. They serve for four years on a 14-member board, which also includes representatives from Prince George, Mackenzie, McBride, and Valemount.
