If elected, Peacock said one of her top priorities would be ensuring students with diverse learning needs receive the support they require in the classroom. She pointed to challenges faced by students with conditions such as ADHD, autism and fetal alcohol spectrum disorder, saying school resources should be directed to areas where they can have the greatest impact.

“It’s all about diversity,” Peacock said. “Where can the best buck be put?”

Peacock said her years of advocating for her own children, as well as the children of friends and family members, have prepared her for the role of trustee. She also highlighted her involvement as a Girl Guide leader, Brownie leader and swim club coordinator as examples of her commitment to supporting young people.

The trustee candidate is no stranger to politics. Peacock previously ran for Prince George city council in 2014 and said growing interest in local government is encouraging, even if crowded election races can sometimes make it difficult for voters to choose among candidates.

For Peacock, the decision to run comes down to one thing.

“My passion is children,” she said. “That’s where my heart is.”
