Scott withdraws from Prince George municipal election

PRINCE GEORGE — Prince George City Councillor Susan Scott is stepping away from municipal politics, announcing she will no longer seek re-election in the 2026 municipal election.

In a statement, Scott said the decision was not made lightly and reflected both personal considerations and concerns about the increasingly divisive nature of local politics. Speaking about her decision, Scott said her passion for Prince George and its residents remains as strong as ever.

“There’s a great deal of passion in me for this city and the people,” Scott said. “It has very much been my privilege to be at the table at City Hall, doing my best to bring the message from the citizens of Prince George forward.”

Scott has served on several key council committees during her term, including Homelessness and Affordable Housing, Finance and Audit, and Intergovernmental Relations. She said public service will continue to be an important part of her life even after leaving city council.

While Scott’s written statement referenced divisions around the council table and concerns about what the next term could look like, she emphasized that her focus remains on the future of the city and the people elected to represent it.

“I know that there is a large and amazing group of people that are stepping up into this election,” she said. “My challenge to whoever is at the table after October 17th: pay attention.”

Scott urged future council members to listen to residents and balance community priorities with the financial realities facing the city.

“Pay attention to the people who live here and what matters to them, and continue to ensure that the needs of the city are balanced with the costs of what they need,” she said.

An emotional Scott thanked residents for the opportunity to serve and encouraged voters to become informed and take part in the upcoming election.

She said while her time on council may be ending, her commitment to Prince George and its citizens will continue.
